The paper had the words THE DAYS ARE LONG scrawled onto it in blue colored pencil. He supposed they meant something to him last night. Idly, he folded the piece of paper up into a little square and stuck it on his fridge with his photographs. He would remember, eventually.

Figure and Ground Phenomena
Aquerelle pencils and markers on vellum cartolina. But I couldn’t find vellum so it’s just… cartolina cartolina. Finally finished this plate… the night before its due date albeit it was assigned two weeks ago.

Holocaust Memorial
With trembling hands I touch the glass:
each groove a breath
each number a beat
each line a life
etched clear on prisms and oppressed flesh.
Walking through,
I wonder what it was like
To be one of those numbers.
Remembered only
Through the pain they suffered.
Smiles lost.
Taken by history
As they were by soldiers.
Sun beams cut sharp through transparent skin
so bright I can barely see what is written.
It is like walking through realization:
(Clear history, no tricks)
Brutal.
Shameful.
Enlightening.
No words to say how it was,
Only numbers
To warn of what could be.
Mankind
At its best,
Admitting
Its worst.
